Mrs. Durella Atmore McMackin, 84, of Bruceton, died Sunday, January 5, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Huntingdon of heart disease. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, January 27, at Marlboro Baptist Church. Brother Jack Hopper officiated. Interment followed in New Prospect Cemetery near Hollow Rock.
Mrs. McMackin, a retired seamstress for H.I.S., was born in Hardin County to the late John Franklin and Cora Atmore Brint Bell. She was preceded in death by a son, James Warren McMackin.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Cole of Camden and Helen Stepp, of Bruceton; two sons, Rex McMackin and Kenneth McMackin, both of Bruceton; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great- great-grandson.
Pallbearers who served were Mark French, Cory French, Bruce Stepp, Michael Stepp, Phillip McMackin, and Preston Givens. Bruceton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements, (901) 586-2512.

Anita Hicks Herndon died Monday morning, August 19, 2002, of complications from pneumonia in Miami, Florida. Born in Camden, Tennessee on August 27, 1917, she was the second child of Dr. Garvin Priestly Hicks and wife, Grace Paschal of Bruceton, Tennessee.
She attended school in Bruceton and college at Milligan College, and graduating from Murray State University in 1937. She married Joe Ted Herndon, also of Bruceton, and the two then began a long and successful teaching career at Greenfield High School in Greenfield, Tennessee. Later, they relocated to Bruceton, when they both taught High School for over twenty years, and both receiving their Masters Degrees from George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville. Mrs. Herndon was renown as an inspiring and challenging teacher of English. She also served as Guidance Counselor. In 1968, Mrs. Herndon taught at West Junior High in the Metropolitan Nashville Public School System, and in 1969 she became the Assistant Dean of Students at Peabody College. Later she was promoted to Dean of Students there. She retired in 1979 to Bruceton.
In 1982, she and Mr. Herndon relocated to Nashville, where they remained until the death of Joe Ted Herndon in 1992. In 1994, she relocated to Miami, Florida to the home of her son, Joseph.
She was a member of the Bruceton United Methodist Church and was an organist and teacher there. Her husband, Joe Ted Herndon, and her only sister, Brenda Mae Orr of Bruceton, and Murray, Kentucky, predecease her. Survivors include her daughter, Karen Herndon Miller of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, and Joseph L. Herndon of Miami, Florida. Her grandchildren include Dr. Thomas Bryan Miller of Gardner, Massachusetts, Elizabeth Miller of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, Meredith Herndon of Nashville, Tennessee, Elliott Herndon of Nashville, Tennessee, and Gabriel Anthony Herndon of Miami, Florida. Her great-grandchild is Julia Miller of Gardner, Massachusetts.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday at the Bruceton Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Camden City Cemetery. Bruceton Funeral Home

Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 24, at the Eastview Baptist Church. Dr. Steve Atwood officiated. Burial followed in the Carroll Memorial Gardens. Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Childress, the daughter of the late Joe and Myrtle Henderson Mitchell, was born June 6, 1916, in Westport. She was the widow of A.H. Childress, who died December 21, 1999. She was a retired cook for the Huntingdon School System and a member of the Eastview Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Linda Godwin of Gleason; a son, Joe Childress of Murfreesboro; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Marion "Beans" Westbrook Page, 83, of Bruceton, died Tuesday, August 15, at his son's residence in Huntingdon. Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 17, at the Bruceton Church of Christ. Mike Hogan officiated. Burial followed in Prospect Cemetery in Hollow Rock. Bruceton Funeral Home was in charger of the arrangements. Mr. Page, the son of the late Marion Edgar Page and Stephie Dale Westbrook Page, was born November 13, 1916, in Mercer. He was a retired conductor for L&N Railroad, a member of Bruceton Chruch of Christ, and a member of Brotherhood of Railroad trainmen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Lea Page; a son, Marion Douglas Page; and a brother, Ralph Douglas Page. Mr. Page is survived by a son, John W. Page, Sr. (Joyce) of Huntingdon; three grandchildren, Sharon Leigh Page, John Page, Jr. and Katherine Dillon; and six great-grandchildren. GLENNVILLE - Charlie Ebin Rowland, former mayor of Glennville died July 3 at home. He was 84.
He was born in Buena Vista, Tenn., and moved to Glennville in 1952 from Jacksonville, Fla. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a merchant, was the owner and manager of Western Auto Store for 10 years and the owner for 18 years of Dream Home Furnishings in Glennville. He also was the owner and operator of Glennville Acceptance Co. And Swap Shop for the last 25 years. He served as president and secretary of the Chamber of Commerce and received special recognition for his service to the community.
During his tenure as mayor he initiated the project to extend the city limits of Glennville in order to realize more from revenue sharing. In 1971, he headed the project to build a police station and in 1972, he initiated the project to build a fire station. In 1973, he launched the project for a recreation center and received a grant from HUD for land and ball fields. During his 12 years as mayor, he led projects to pave several dirt streets. In 1972, he also initiated the project that formed the Glennville Industrial Authority. And at a later date, he formed the Downtown Development Authority.
Other projects of his career included spearheading projects to create two parking lots in downtown Glennville, building the present courtroom with new offices, and opening a welcome center. He was instrumental in opening the City of Glennville Sanitary Land Fill and assisting the Garden Club to obtain funding for the Garden Club Center renovation and paving for parking.
He encouraged Fort Stewart/Glennville relationship and membership in AUSA. In 1986, initiated jail renovation from a 50-50 state grant.
He was president of the 1st District Georgia Municipal Association from 1972-1973. He was a member of Glennville Lions Club, where he served as secretary and treasurer for more than 24 years, the editor of the Lions Club Bulletin for 30 years and received the Monarch Award for 40 years of service and received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for service to Lions Club International for 55 years.
He served on the Community Affairs State Committee and received the Small Business Award from President Gerald Ford in 1976. He was an honorary member of Victory Division, 24th Infantry Division "First to Fight," of the Army. He also served on the Advisory Committee of Altamaha Planning Commission. He was a member of Glennville United Methodist Church, where he had served as chairman of the trustees, the Administrative Board, Finance Committee, president of the Methodist Men and a member of Carol Cowart Sunday School Class.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Susan Crawford Rowland of Glennville; two daughters and a sons-in-law, Judy and Willie Bland of Glennville and Suzanne and David Woodrum of Savannah; a sister, Leoca Bennett of Hollow Rock, Tenn.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was the son of Arthur and Liza Rowland of Hollow Rock, TN.
VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. Today at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville.
FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Thursday at Glennville United Methodist Church, burial in Glennville City Cemetery.
