BRUCETON: Services for Patrick Daniel "Dan" Blackwell, Jr., 83, were held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 2 at Bruceton Methodist Church with burial in Prospect Cemetery. Mr. Blackwell died on Tuesday, December 31.
He was a retired engineer for L&N Railroad and was an engineer in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in China, Burma and India conflict. His wife, Mary Blackwell, preceded him in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Thorne of Memphis and Mary Johnson of Bruceton; one son, Dennis Blackwell of Bruceton; one sister, Frances Spence of Nashville; one brother, Bobby Blackwell of Pennsylvania; and four grandchildren.
Bruceton Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Services for Kenneth Deal, clerical worker of Chicago, formerly of Carroll County, were held at 4 p.m. Friday July 15, at the Bruceton Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald Moorehead officiated. Burial was in Prospect Cemetery.
Mr. Deal died Tuesday, July 12, at his home in Chicago, where he had lived for the past six years. He was 40.
Mr. Deal moved to Bruceton at the age of four. He attended business college in Nashville and was a member of the Methodist Church.
He leaves one son, Bradley of Massena, New York; one sister, Mrs. Bailey Cain of Marion, Ind., and a stepmother, Mrs. W. G. Deal of Bruceton.

Reba V. Warren, 96, passed away on March 21, 2014 at St. Luke Lutheran Community of Portage Lakes in New Franklin, Ohio where she lived for the past 6 years. Reba is now dancing in heaven reunited with her loving family and friends.
She was born November 2, 1917 to the late Grace Kyle and Charles Doy Kyle in Gleason, TN. Reba was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother who will be missed and lovingly remembered. Reba graduated from Central High School in Bruceton, TN. In her youth, Reba was crowned “Miss Hollow Rock” when she was 17 during a Sunday “Afternoon” Social in Hollow Rock. She worked at Akron City Hospital and attended the Akron Baptist Temple. Reba was an avid dancer and enjoyed ballroom dancing several nights a week. Reba enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed swinging on back porch swings, celebrations at Belgrade Garden’s, Christmas and Thanksgiving in her Children’s homes, sunny afternoons with family on their back deck and outings to the farm to visit with the horses. Family was her life and most important to her.
Reba was preceded in death by her husband, Norton; and her sister, Eloise Hulsey. She leaves her loving and devoted son, Dale and daughter-in-law, Monica Warren; best friend and loving and devoted daughter, Judy and son-in-law, John York; and brother, John (Carolyn) Kyle. Reba leaves to mourn her death: grandchildren, Kim (Kenny) Frost, Keith (Tonya) Warren, Mark Warren, Brandon (Ginger) York, and Bryce (Debbie) York; great-grandchildren, Joshua Warren, son of Keith and Tonya Warren, Tyler, Noah and Abby York, children of Brandon and Ginger York, and Ilana York, daughter of Bryce and Debbie York; many other family and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff of St. Luke Lutheran Community of Portage Lakes and Crossroads Hospice for their love and support.

Funeral Mass for Mary Elizabeth Blackwell, 74 of Bruceton, was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 26, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Camden. Burial was in Hollow Rock's Prospect Cemetery with Father Joseph Paolozzi officiating.
She was married to Patrick Daniel Blackwell, Jr. They had three children, Dennis Blackwell of Bruceton, Mary Blackwell Johnson of Ripley and Deborah Blackwell Thorne of Memphis.
She had two sisters, Margaret Hunt of Martin and Julia Herring of Detroit; and a brother, Joe Mitchell of Bruceton. She also had four grandchildren.

Tyler Cox Mitchell, a retired conductor with CSX Railroad, died Thursday, June 17 at Margie Ann Nursing Home in Lebanon.
He was born September 28, 1919 in Vale to the late Joseph Alexander and Myrtle Ila Henderson Mitchell. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, past Master of Bruceton Masonic Lodge #731, Bruceton Order of Eastern Star Adah Chapter #314, and a member of the United Trainmen Union.
Survivors include a daughter, Gina Blythe of Mt. Juliet; a son Terry Mitchell of Camden; a sister, Willodean Childress of Huntingdon, twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Buried Prospect Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Estie Register Ripley, a ge 93, teacher and musician, will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 20, 2013 in the chapel of Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home. Burial will follow i n H ollywood Cemetery.
Mrs. Ripley died February 15, 2013 in Lawrenceville, GA.
Estie Ripley was born May 20, 1919 in the Buena Vista Community of Carroll County, TN, daughter of the late Arthur John and Ollie Rogers Register. She graduated from Central High School in Bruceton, TN in 1937, received her BS degree from UT Knoxville in 1940 and her Masters degree from Memphis State University in 1955.
She began her teaching career in 1940 in a one room schoolhouse, with students in the first grade through high school. For thirty-three years she worked with children in the public primary schools of Tennessee. She is remembered for being a living example of the lessons she taught.
Mrs. Ripley was a lifetime member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a professional honorary society of women educators. She served as president of the Alpha Omicron chapter.
Mrs. Ripley married William Ira Ripley on October 25, 1942 and celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1992. Bill, as her husband was known, died on November 11, 2001. They were dedicated members of First Baptist Church of Jackson, TN where she taught Sunday School for 50 years. She also sang in the sanctuary choir and served as president of her Sunday School Department for many years.
In retirement, Estie and Bill enjoyed table tennis, shuffleboard, and walking with the Jackson Recreation Department. They also won many medals in the Senior Olympics. They particularly enjoyed the Do-Dah Band, a music group directed by Mrs. Sylvia Pinson Gortney.
In addition to the Do-Dah Band, Mrs. Ripley was well known throughout the Jackson area for her willingness to entertain on organ, piano and accordion. She played in churches, nursing homes, and for special events encouraging the audiences to sing along. For many years, she was a regular performer at the Old Country Store.
Surviving her are her son, William Arthur Ripley and wife Dr. Karen Ripley of Stone Mountain, GA; grandson, Dr. David L. Ripley and wife Marian; great grandchilden, Bryan, Michael, Caroline and Christopher all of Chicago, IL; grandson, Jonathan P. Ripley and wife Mea of Tucker, GA; grandson, W. Alan Ripley and wife Jessica; great granddaughter, Madeleine all of Chicago, IL; granddaughter, Mary Joanna Ripley of Stone Mountain, GA; sister-inlaw, Mrs. Lula Kate Estes of Dyersburg, TN; nephew, Tom Estes of Palm Bay, FL; niece, Marilyn Estes Armstrong of Dyersburg, TN; longtime special friend, Helen Morgan of Jackson, TN.
In lieu of flowers, Love Gifts may be s ent to the children’s ministry of the First Baptist Church in Jackson.

John H. Rhodes, 48, 607 N. Rockford Ave. died at 9 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 1968 in Sweedish-American Hospital after a long illness. Born Sept. 11, 1919 in Lexington, Tenn., son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rhodes. Lived 14 years in Rockford, coming here from Beloit, Wis. Married to the former Phyllis Nelson in Geneva, May 27, 1944. Employed as news editor of radio station WRRR. Veteran of World War II serving in the Army. Member of Zion Lutheran Church and Illinois News Broadcasters Association.
Survivors include: his widow, Phyllis; one son, Thomas, Rockford; two daughters, Mrs. George Tarhke, Rockford, and Tina Rhodes, of home.

Local Newscaster Dies of Lukemia
John H. Rhodes, 48, widely known radio newscaster, did at 9 p.m. Sunday after a year's bout with lukemia. Rhodes 607 N. Rockford. Ave., established the News Department at Radio Station WRRR 13 years ago.
FORMER PRESIDENT
The newsman, a former president of the Illinois News Broadcasters Association, died at Swedish-American Hospital, where he had been a patient since April 3. Rhodes died almost a year to the day after an automobile accident in which he was injured while en route to cover the Belvidere tornado. The accident was April 22, 1967. He never fully recovered from the effects of that accident and within four months, he was diagnosed as having lukemia. Rhodes who because of his illness was out of work for a while last summer, returned to the radio station last fall and remained on the job until recently.
SERVED IN ARMY
Born in Lexington, Tenn., Rhodes had lived in Rockford for 14 years. He served with the Army during World War II. Rhodes married the former Phyllis Nelson on May 27, 1944, in Geneva.
Survivors include his widow Phyllis; a son, Thomas, Rockford; two daughters, Mrs. George Tarhke, Rockford, and Tina, at home.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today in Fred C. Olson Mortuary, 1001 2nd Ave. Burial will be in the Scandinavian Cemetery.

Mrs. Benjamin was born December 16, 1914 to Mr. James Elbert Watson and the Former Ms. Sarah Louisa Rosalee Stephens in Gleason, TN. She was a retired nurse and a member of Hollow Rock Methodist Church. Mrs. Benjamin was preceded in death by her husband, William Phillip Benjamin. Surviving her is one brother, William Henry Watson, of Fort Worth, TX.

Mrs. Reavis died April 15, at her home in Bruceton.
She was born October 28, 1919 in Murray, Kentucky to the late Mr. E.E. Wright and the former Ms. Myrtle M. Orr. She was married to Mr. Joe M. Reavis, who sirvives. Mrs. Reavis was a homemaker and a Methodist.
Survivors include her Husband Mr. Joe Reavis of Bruceton; two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Pickman, Washington, D.C., Mrs. Margery Causey, Pasadena, CA; mother, Mrs. E.E. Wright, Bruceton; one sister, Mrs. Elizabet Swee, Miami, Fla; and two grandchildren.

Fred Neal Wyatt HOLLOW ROCK: Services for Fred Neal "Chop" Wyatt, 84, were at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 17 at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Buena Vista with the Rev. Paul Merwin and Rev. Hillman Walker officiating. Interment followed in the Carroll Memorial Gardens near McKenzie.
Mr. Wyatt, a retired engineer for the L & N Railroad, died Wednesday, November 15 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon of a stroke.
He was born September 13, 1916 in Carroll County to the late Robert Bunyan Wyatt and Mary Alice Melton Wyatt. He was a member of the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church serving as a deacon and treasurer; was a World War II army veteran and a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers. He was the first American soldier to drive a train into Nazi Germany.
He is survived by his wife, Ovilene Wyatt; two sons, Ernest Neal Wyatt of Bruceton and Stephen Wyatt of Huntingdon; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
