Monder Lee Austin Allen, 97, of Bruceton, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 2, at her residence. Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m., at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Jeff Simmons officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Hill Church Cemetery. Bruceton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Allen was born Oct. 30, 1918, in Carroll County, to the late John T. Austin and Ollie A. Taylor Austin. She was a retired home decorator for Sears & Roebuck Company.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Millard P. Allen, a sister, Erma A. Smothers, and a brother, Zinmer “Zin” Austin.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda B. Boggs, of Allen, Texas; a grandson, Austin George; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers who served were Billy Ray Lowe, Austin George, Randy and Bill Hargrove, Carmen Sparks, and Edward Ellis. [Source: Carroll County News-Leader]

Funeral services were held August 2, 1994 in the Chapel of Newby Funeral Home with Dr. Larry Hillmore and Reverend Harold Carver officiating. Interment followed in the Gallatin City Cemetery.

Mr. DeVault was a member of the first Baptist church for forty two years, a deacon, a member of the V.F.W., a veteran of World War II, an Honary Knight Commander Court of Honor and a juvenile court referee for eight years.

Mr. DeVault is survived by his wife, Sue W. DeVault; a son, Duane DeVault; a daughter-in-law, Linda K. DeVault ; a grandson, Franklin Barrett DeVault all of Gallatin; a sister Anne Boyd of Oak Ridge; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers who served were Howard Branham, Perry McArthur, Bill Burns, Jimmy England Jones Hamlett, Howard Scott, Richard Jones and Pete McGee.

Honary pallbearers were Harry Barnham, Earl Brown, Houston Draper, W.L. Draper, Ruthledge Kittrell, Johnny Schiavone, Bill Anderson, Jack Williams, Harold Kemp, Kelton Herdon, James Simpson and members of the King Solomon Lodge #94, all K.C.C.H., Bethpage Chapter O.E.S. #5 and 33rd Scottish Rite Masonic Of Middle Tennessee.

Virginia Nelson Ackerman died Saturday, July l4, 2007, at Huntsville Hospital in Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Garrett B. Ackerman and sisters, Marie Boyd and Argie Lancaster-Hurt.

Virginia was born in Hollow Rock, Tennessee, August l2, l920, the daughter of the late Lennie Rowland Nelson and Charles Emmett Nelson. She met her husband, Garrett, at Nashville General Hospital where he was interning and she was an x-ray technician. According to a letter Garrett sent to the Ohio State Medical School Alumni Association in 1951, he applied his ?northern charm? to convince the ?southern belle? to marry him and move to Wellston, which became their home for 59 years.

Virginia was a well-known and very active contributor to the community. She was first appointed to the Board of the Sylvester Memorial Wellston Public Library in l978, and later served as Secretary and President of the Board from 1989 to 2005. She was on the Board of the Jackson (Ohio) Metropolitan Housing Authority for 34 years, serving as its Chair from 1993 to 2005. An avid golfer and seven time women?s club champion, ?Ginny? was the first woman to be elected to the Board of Governors of the Fairgreens Country Club in l97l and later became its first woman President. She was an active and faithful member of The First Presbyterian Church of Wellston.

She is survived by two loving sons: Gary N. Ackerman (wife Robin) of Seattle, WA and Steven G. Ackerman (wife Emma) of Huntsville, AL; five grandchildren: Graham Ackerman and David Ackerman of Seattle, WA; Garrett Ackerman of Huntsville, AL, and Meghan (Ackerman) Monahan of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Hallie (Ackerman) Kerrigan of Stratford, CN; three great-grandchildren: Jacob and Aidan Monahan and Ava Kerrigan.

A memorial service will be held for Virginia at 2 p.m., Saturday August 25, at the First Presbyterian Church of Wellston, with John Pelletier officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sylvester Memorial Wellston Public Library or the First Presbyterian Church of Wellston.

BRUCETON: Warren I. Phillips, 83, died Saturday, December 23, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services were Tuesday, December 26, at 2 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church with Bro. Fred Morris and Bro. Bob Bridgeman officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Mr. Phillips was born November 2, 1923 to the late Willie Green Phillips and Dora (Jarman) Phillips. He was a Boiler Engineer at Youngstown Steele for 30 years, a member of Grace Baptist Church where he was also a Deacon. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Kay Phillips; one son, Walter Phillips; and one sister, Mary Phillips.

Survivors include: his wife of 63 years, Bessie Mae Phillips; one daughter, Wanda (Frank) White of Bruceton; one sister, Nadine (Polly) Pruitt of Griffith, Indiana; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Chase Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lucy Lee Park, 79, of Bruceton, died Saturday, January 16, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 18, at Bruceton First Baptist Church. Rev. James S. Daniel, Rev. John Brown and Rev. Herbert Higdon officiated the services. Burial was in Prospect Cemetery in Hollow Rock. Bruceton Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers who served were Troy Smothers, Ben Hill, David Bond, Ernest Thorne, William Freeland and Phillip Park.

Mrs. Park, the daughter of the late Ben H. and Myrtle Williams Pickler, was born December 12, 1919, in Buena Vista. She was a retired partner of Bruceton Market, and a member of Bruceton First Baptist Church.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jessie Pickler, Clyde Pickler and B.H. Pickler. Mrs. Park is survived by her husband, Willard Park; a daughter, Gail Cavender of Bruceton; a sister, Bennie Hendrix of Bruceton; and two grandchildren, Andy and Kimberly Cavender, both of Bruceton

Mr. Norman Clinoye Sanders, 84, of Hollow Rock, Tennessee passed away Thursday, July 15, 2004 at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Humboldt after a hard and courageous battle with kidney disease. Funeral services will be conducted on today, July 17, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Carroll Memorial Gardens. Bro. Steve Davis will officiate the service.

Mr. Sanders was born April 15, 1920 in Vale, Tennessee to the late Elus and Era (Hutchison) Sanders. He graduated from Bruceton High School and was a World War II Navy Veteran. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Hollow Rock, VFW Post #4349, American Legion Post #175, Masonic Lodge #288, Alchymia Shrine Temple in Memphis and also earned his Scottish Rite 32nd Degree.

He is survived by one daughter, Deborah Cypert (husband Phillip) of Jacksonville, Florida; one son, Norman E. Sanders of Jackson; two sisters, Christine Pickler of Buena Vista and Corlynn Sanders of Lexington. He also leaves two grandchildren, Cheryl Bagley, Erick Sanders and two great grandchildren, Erica Bagley and Bryce Bagley.

Funeral services for Louis Adkins Smith, of Bartlett, formerly of Bruceton, age 90, were held Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel of the Bruceton Funeral Home with Dale Willis officiating followed by Military Honors. Burial followed at Prospect Cemetery in Hollow Rock. Bruceton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smith passed away Sunday, Dec. 12 at the Kings Daughter Nursing Home in Bartlett. He was born May 22, 1920 in Chensee, S. C. to the late Berry Hayden Smith and Lassie Milner Westbrook Smith. He was a retired yardmaster for CSX Railroad, a WWII Army Veteran, a member of the American Legion, and a member of Quail Ridge Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Louis Smith and a sister, Marjorie Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy May Mitchell Smith, and a daughter, Betty (Chuck), both of Bartlett; two grandchildren, Leigh Ann Vernon, and Charles Robert Walters, and two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Ella.

Nancy Elizabeth Miller, 87, of Bruceton, died Thursday, April 3. Services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at Bruceton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Daniels and Rev. Noel Edwards officiating. Burial followed at Prospect Cemetery.

Mrs. Miller, daughter of the late Jerome Nathaniel Thompson and Fannie Parker Thompson, was born on April 30, 1920, in Craggie Hope. She was a devoted homemaker most of her life, worked several years for Hollow Rock-Bruceton Cafeteria, and was a 50 year member of Bruceton Order of Eastern Star Adah Chapter #314. She was also a member of Bruceton First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Bryan Miller, Sr. She is survived by a son, Thomas (Karen) Bryan Miller, Jr. of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts; two grandchildren, Thomas Bryan Miller, III, and Elizabeth Heathers Miller; and two great-grandchildren, Julia Marie and Peyton Grace Miller. Mrs. Miller, a housewife, was born April 30, 1920 in Craggie Hope, Tennessee to the late Jerome Nathaniel Thompson and Fannie Parker Thompson. She was a member of Bruceton First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for 50 years. She worked several years for Hollow Rock-Bruceton cafeteria and was a 50-year member of Bruceton Order of Eastern Star Adah Chapter #314.
