Paul Weldon Norwood
January 23, 1917 - February 2, 2000

Completed arrangements are being announced for Paul Weldon Norwood, 83 of 1419 Edwards St. in Union City who died 12:45 a.m. Feb. 2, 2000, at Union City Manor Nursing Home. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Sterling officiating. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 5-8 this evening. Pallbears will be Robert Lewis, Ronnie Minton, Dwight Grace, Bill Helper, Leroy Perryman, Alonzo King, Lanny Callicott and Jim Stone.

He was born Jan. 23 1917 in Carroll County, of of the late Robbie and Pearl Norwood. He married the former Sue Cole Jan. 7, 1945. She Died Aug. 11, 1999. He was a retired toll test board operator for South Central Bell Telephone Co., and was a member of Union City Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the Union City Civitan Club, Masonic Lodge No. 538 F&AM and the Telephone Pioneers and was an honorary life member of Communications Workers of America. He was well known for his hobby of restoring old furniture and wood working.

Survivors include a son Bill Norwood of Union City; a daughter, Paula Sterling of Memphis; a sister, Claudine Heath of Kennett, Mo.; three brothers, Ralph Norwood of Dyersburg, R.E. Norwood of Union City and Wade Norwood of Prattville, Ala; and four grandchildren; Amanda Norwood and Joseph Norwood both of Union City, and Jessica Sterling and Haley Sterling, both of Memphis. He was also preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
