Charles “Chuck” Oxford Bond, 81, of Bruceton, passed away August 22 at Jackson-Madison County Hospital. Services were conducted August 25 at Hebron Methodist Church near Bruceton with Brother Keith Roberts officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers who served were Paul Bond, Archie Bond, Dave Bond, Gary Bond, Jeff Bond, Christopher Bond, Doug Hedges, and Martin Eason. Serving as honorary pallbearer was Billy “Pop” Segraves.
Mr. Bond was born January 7, 1931, in Bruceton, to the late Virgil Franklin Bond and Vivian Farrington Oxford Bond. He was a member of Hebron United Methodist Church and a member of Bruceton Masonic Lodge #731.
He is survived by his wife. Wanza King Bond of Bruceton; two sons. Gary Randall Bond of Oak Hills, California, and Jeffrey Shane Bond of Bruceton; one sister, William Roberts of Har risonville; three brothers, Travis Weldon Bond of Huntingdon, Virgil Junior Bond of Waterford, Michigan, and Paul Bond of Bruceton; four grandchildren, Christina, Christopher, Kaitlyn and Brandon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jewel Dean Thomas and Obile Lee Bonkowski.

Peggy Inez Garvey Shawl, 88, died Sunday evening, May 6, at her Brentwood home surrounded by family and friends.
She was born in Lexington, Tennessee, and moved to Bruceton, Tennessee, as a child and lived there until her marriage to Andrew C. Shawl.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ike; parents; brothers; sisters; and longtime companion, Kelton Herndon, of Gallatin.
She is survived by her two sons, Andrew Timothy Shawl (Lori) and Daniel T. Shawl (Pam); three grandchildren, Wyeth, Shelly and Steve; and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews.

Opal Thompson, 71, NEW JOHNSONVILLE Services for Opal Burnice Thompson, 71, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Oakdale Chapel. Burial will be in the Cowell's Chapel Cemetery. Mrs. Thompson, a store manager, died Wednesday at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville of heart disease.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tilford Thompson; and two brothers, Nolan and Alvis Glosson.
She is survived by two daughters and two sons, Linda Moore, Cathy Rodgers, Terry Thompson and Lloyd Thompson, all of New Johnsonville; six sisters, Beatrice Underwood, June Chapman, Shirley Martin, all of Hollow Rock, Chessie Wardlow of Camden, Shelby Herring of Little Rock, Ark., Lou Ellen Holley of Wetumpka, Ala., and Mary Francis Taylor of North Carolina; and two brothers, Jerry Glosson of Hollow Rock and Charles Glosson of Yuma.

Annie Marie Dolan, 77, of Bruceton, died Saturday, October 25. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, October 29) at Marlboro Church of Christ in the Vale Community with Joe Abbott officiating. Burial will follow at Marlboro Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will be Bryan Foster, Ashley Foster, Steve Green, John Beamon, Bill Lemons, and Jimmy Lowe. Honorary pallbearers will be Will McMackins and Bryan Abbott. Bruceton Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Dolan, daughter of the late Linden “Taylor” Green and Ada Odell Owenby Green, was born on December 15, 1930, in Vale. She received her Master’s Degree in Education from the Memphis State University. She retired after 27 years as a school teacher for the City of Memphis Schools. She was a member of Holmes Road Church of Christ in Memphis from 1960-1993 and Marlboro Church of Christ since 1993.
She was preceded in death by a brother, George E. Green. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ralph Eugene Dolan; a son, Ralph Brent (Elsie) Dolan of Bruceton; a sister, Wanda Faye Green Foster of Bruceton; and two grandchildren, Annie Marie Dolan and Oliver Dolan, both of Atlanta, Georgia.

Fort Wayne Hopper, 85, of Brewton, Ala., formerly of Bruceton, passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, at Community Hospice in Foley, Ala. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 23, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the Bruceton Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Prospect Cemetery in Hollow Rock. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Mr. Hopper was born Dec. 13, 1930, in Bruceton, to the late Dr. Floyd M. Hopper and Ella B. Taylor Hopper. He was a retired trainmaster for CSX Railroad, and loved hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He was a Lion’s Club member, a Mason and a member of the Brewton Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy “Dot” Hopper, an infant son, Stephen W. Hopper, and a brother, Taylor L. Hopper.
He is survived by a daughter, Kim (Evadne) Hopper, of Quinque, Va.; two sons, Barry (Wanda) Hopper, of Foley, and Greg (Sharon) Hopper, of Metairie, La.; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Tiffany, Shelley, Greg, Jessica, and Casey, and nine great-grandchildren. [Source: Carroll County News-Leader]

BRUCETON: Bonnie Lee Bayless, 77, died Monday, April 28, at McKenzie Regional Hospital. Funeral services are Wednesday, April 30, at 2 p.m. at Bruceton Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Bradshaw officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery in Hollow Rock.
Mrs. Bayless was born April 8, 1931 in Sawyers Mill to the late William Elliot Hurt and Pearl Turner Hurt. She was a seamstress for H.I.S., member of Bruceton First Baptist Church, Bruceton Order of Eastern Star Adah Chapter #314, and Hollow Rock VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Richard D. Bayless, Jr.
Survivors include: her husband, Richard "Dick" Bayless, Sr. of Bruceton; two daughters, Rosa Lee Bayless of Murfreesboro and Susan (Bob) Bouldin of McKenzie; one sister, Mary Nell McMackins of Bruceton; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Leslie Ernest Johnson, Jr., 84, of Branson West, MO, formerly of Bruceton, passed away Friday, Feb. 14, at Roaring Rivers Health and Rehab in Cassville, MO. Services were conducted today (Wednesday, Feb. 25) at 1 p.m. at Bruceton First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery. Steve Whitwhorth officiated. Bruceton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Johnson was born on Feb. 22, 1930, in Huntingdon, to the late Leslie E. Johnson, Sr. and Mrs. Marguerite Ann Clark Johnson. He was a retired Air Force Major Air Commander. He was also a graduate of Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central High School in 1948 and of Memphis State with a B.S. Degree. He entered the Air Force shortly after where he remained for over 20 years. He was a
Command Pilot and received three Disquisted Fying Crosses, Meritous Service Metal, an Air Metal with five Oak Leaf Cluster and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm. He was a 32 Degree Mason and member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Besides his parents he was also preceded in death by two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Bobbye Jean Mathis Johnson of Branson West, MO; two sons, Leslie Ernest (Mary) Johnson, III of OK and K.C. Johnson of VA; two grandchildren, Rachel Jean Johnson and Emily Kate

Donald C. Jones, 70, of Erlanger, Kentucky, formerly of Carroll County, died at his home Monday, April 17. Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 20, at Stith Funeral Home in Florence, Kentucky. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Erlanger.
Mr. Jones, the son of Lila G. Jones of Bruceton and the late Willie G. Jones, was born May 18, 1929, in Carroll County. He was a retired inspector of General Electric, a lifetime member of AFL CIO in Cincinnati, Ohio, and a member of Florence Masonic Lodge No. 949. He was an Army Veteran, having served in the Korean War and also served in the U.S. Air Force.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Opal Strunk Jones; a daughter, Nickie Gibbs of Union, Kentucky; a son, D. Jeff Jones of Corbin, Kentucky; two sisters, Barabara Campanella of Nalcrest, Florida, and Helen Griffin of Huntingdon; and three grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requested all memorials be sent to St. Elizabeth Hospital Hospice in Covineton, Kentucky.

Joe Donald McAdams, 71, died August 12, peacefully with his wife at his side. He went home to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with many illnesses. He’s rejoicing in heaven with family and loved ones previously deceased.
He was born August 28, 1931 to Travis and Jayne Marie McAdams in Hollow Rock. He was an Oxnard resident for the past 35 years. He attended school in Bruceton, graduating at the top of his class at the age of 16. After joining the Navy in December, 1948, he completed boot camp in San Diego, transferring to Treasure Island in San Francisco. There he met his future wife, Julie Fay Edwards. They were married February 17, 1951. Joe served on the USS George, USS Iowa, USS Enterprise and the USS Long Beach. He was selected to compete and serve as Captain on the Navy National Rifle and Pistol Team. He received countless trophies and awards, but was especially proud of his Expert Pistol Shot and Rifleman Awards. Joe retired as Chief Petty Officer in March of 1968 after 29 years of dedicated service.
He relocated, moving his family to Oxnard, where he worked for many years at Computer Sciences Corporation at Point Mugu. February 12, 1980 he began working at NSWSES Tartar Weapon Systems at CBC, Port Hueneme, retiring December 31, 1995. He was active with the Employee Recreation Activities receiving many special achievement awards. Though he did not want to be remembered for his cooking, those of you lucky enough to have tasted something he had barbecued, can never forget. But don’t worry, he left us the secret recipes.
During the years his children attended Rio Mesa High School, Joe was very active in the Band Boosters and Athletic Boosters Club, serving as president from 1976-1978. He was a man of many talents. He was a woodworker, gadget collector, welder, leather craftsman, mechanic, avid gardener, also receiving 1st place honors for his photography talents at the Ventura County Fair. His travels took him to many places. But the RV adventures shared with his wife and family brought him the most joy. Joe was actively involved for over 19 years with the Oxnard Strawberry Festival. He also was a volunteer instructor for the 55 Alive AARP Driver Safety Program.
Joe and his family joined First Southern Baptist Church of Oxnard in 1968. He has served as Deacon through the many changes of the church, currently known as Dove Christian Ministries. Joe was recently honored by the church by naming the fellowship hall McAdams Hall.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Julie Fay, his three children, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His daughter, Linda Martinez, husband Charlie, their children Denise Shearer and her husband Justin and their daughter, Morgan, Stephanie Martinez and fiancée Aaron Pruter, Crystal Martinez and Chris Sneed, and their daughter, Aryanna Sneed. His daughter, Tammie Thies, husband Jerry, their daughters, Brittany and Elyse Rodgers, and Paige Thies. His son, Michael McAdams, wife Ellie, and their sons, Anthony Madera, Matthew and Brandon McAdams. His sister, Mary Nell Sherill, husband Howard of Paducah, Kentucky, nephews Bill and Norris Sherrill and their families. Stepsisters Anita McLemore, Joan Frensley, and stepbrother Bill Butler and their families, all of Tennessee, and so many other family members that loved him dearly.
The family would like to thank the countless doctors and nurses that helped provide care for Joe, especially the nurses in CCU at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, Oxnard. Kelly was his favorite. A special thank-you to Pastor Jasper Butler and his wife Nancy for their constant presence and support to our family throughout this most difficult time. The love and prayers from the church family have been a great source of comfort. Pastor Jasper Butler officiated at the celebration of Joe’s life, Saturday, August 16, at 10:00 a.m.

John Leslie Moore, 78, of Waverly, died Thursday, December 25. Services were held on Sunday, December 28, at Humphreys County Funeral Home with Bro. Joel Nulty and Bro. Eddie Hopkins officiating. Burial followed at Richlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Moore, son of the late Johnny Ernest Moore and Mertie Pierce Moore, was born on March 23, 1930, in Carroll County. He was retired from DuPont, a member of Bascom Methodist Church, a member of Woodmen of the World and American Legion, and also served in the Army National Guard.
He was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Johnny Lee and Patricia Diane Nix Moore.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Everett Moore; a son, Kenny Moore of Iuka, Mississippi; a stepdaughter, Deborah A. Smith of Jackson; a sister, Norma Fowler of Camden; a grandson, Chad Moore; two great-grandchildren, Caleb Lee Moore and Caden Hall Moore; three step-grandchildren, J.T. James P. “Jim” Reeder, 80, died on Jan. 2, after a brief illness.
He was born in Buena Vista on July 30, 1930, to Connie Priestley Reeder and Jewel Wilson Reeder.
He attended Central High School in Bruceton, Bethel College, U.T. Martin, and graduated from CSU San Francisco. He served in the US Army, G2 Intelligence from 1954-57. Jim was a Recreation Therapist and Supervisor at many State hospitals and Executive Director of Valley of the Sun School in Phoenix, Ariz. He retired from Patton Hospital in 1989.
Jim is survived by his son, Zac (Lisa); daughter, Juni Grimes; grandkids Julia Rose and Nicholas Jude Priestley; former spouse, Rose Reeder; cousin, Ruth Clendenin; and friend Beverly Jackson.
A funeral service was held on Sunday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m. at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel in San Bernardino, Calif. Burial was at Riverside National Cemetery. [Source: Carroll County NEWS-LEADER]

Funeral Services for Paul Douglas Robertson, 84, of Bruceton were Thursday, September 11, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Bruceton Funeral Home with John Parker officiating. Burial followed at Prospect Cemetery in Hollow Rock with military honors at gravesite. He passed away Sunday, September 7, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Mr. Robertson, a retired Air Force Tech Sergeant, was a 57 year member of Bruceton Masonic Lodge #731. After retiring from the Air Force he worked as a clerk in the U.S. Postal Service. While in Vietnam he was awarded the bronze star.
He was born August 14, 1930 in Bruceton to the late Chester Williams Robertson and Freddie Jewel Craven Robertson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William Harold Robertson and Bobbie Gene Robertson.
