CHS Alma Mater
On a hill above the railroad
'Neath a Southern sky
Gloriouly our Alma Mater
From the Hills and valleys round us
Waves her banner high
Sounds the glad refrain
Of our honored sons and daughters
Who revere thy name.
CHORUS:
Onward, then shall be our motto
For we cannot fail;
Hail to thee, our Alma Mater,
Central High -- -- All Hail!

Floyd Cole

Lt. Col. Floyd Cole (Ret.) 91 passed away on July 26, 2022. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 6th, at Hillcrest Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hazel Cemetery in Bell Buckle. Visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M. "Cole", as he was known to family and friends, was born in Bruceton, TN. on September 18, 1930 to E. Floyd Cole and Gwendolyn D. Park Cole.
Times were hard and work was difficult for his father to find, and since his mother had health issues (she would later pass away when he was 13), Cole spent most of his formative years living with relatives, mostly with his paternal grandparents on their farm raising cotton. He was deeply influenced by his grandfather's interest in world events and greatly enjoyed their visits to the local courthouse to observe trials being held.
As a young teenager, Cole moved to an apartment above his Aunt's cafe, where he worked long hours to support himself while also attending high school. In his Junior year of high school, Cole enlisted in the Navy, where he earned his high school diploma, served on an aircraft carrier and a submarine, and went on to become what was known at the time as a Frogman, now referred to as a Navy SEAL with the Navy's Underwater Demolition Team. During this time, the Korean War erupted and he along with his team, were assigned to reconnaissance missions along the coast of Korea.
In his early 20's, Cole was honorably discharged from the Navy. By this time, he had seen more of the United States and the world than most of the residents of his hometown, but he wasn't through yet. With his G.I. Bill, he decided to attend the University of Tennessee and earn his undergraduate and law degrees. During the summertime, he traveled and worked in various states.
While in college, he met and married Mary Farris Drake of Old Hickory, TN. They were married for 65 years and had three daughters. After receiving his Doctor of Jurisprudence, Cole went into private practice at a law firm in Harriman, TN. His desire to see more of the world got the better of him though, and at the age of 30 he joined the Air Force and was assigned as a JAG officer, serving at multiple bases located in the United States, overseas and at a NATO installation in Norway. After his retirement in Austin, Texas, he continued to travel as a Circuit Court Judge for the Texas Youth Commission, before officially retiring and returning to his home state of Tennessee.
Cole is preceded in death by his parents, E. Floyd Cole and Gwendolyn D. Park Cole and his loving wife, Mary; he is survived by his daughters, Karen Warne of Riverside, CA., Laura (Channy) Soeur of Leander, TX. and Ellen (Bill) Anton of Leander, TX; his sisters, Shirley French of Dover, TN. and Gloria Littleton of Harriman, Tn.; his grandchildren, Daniel Johnson, Jaime Johnson, Lauren Hearons, Katie Dillon, Kellyn Warne, Michelle Dahlstrom, Adam Soeur, Jack Anton, Caroline Anton; his great-grandchildren, Sera Alban, Brooke Dillon, Kenley Dillon, Mila Dahlstrom, Garrison Hearons, Gregory Hearons and Josette Menchaca-Warne as well as numerous nephews and nieces.Hearons and Josette Menchaca-Warne as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Doy Freeland
Doy Lee Freeland
July 23, 1931-Januray 6, 2014
Dr. Doy Freeland(1931 - 2014)
Dr. Doy Freeland was born in Bruceton, Tenn., on July 23, 1931 to Esther and Otis Freeland. He was so tiny the doctor didn't think he would live, but his grandmother had raised 13 children and pulled him through with biscuits soaked in water. Years later he ran into the doctor who delivered him, and he was amazed that he lived.
One of the joys of his life was dancing and he never left a party until the last song was played. He put himself through medical school by working two jobs while carrying a 4.0 grade average. They say doctors aren't good patients. He was a very good patient. Never complaining while bearing his pain. He entertained the nurses and aides with his stories and jokes. Having practiced medicine for 49 and a half years, he had a lot of tales to tell. (When he started practicing they had office hours three days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and three days a week from 9 to 5 or when the last patient was seen.) They dispensed medicine in the office back then, did surgeries, set bones, delivered babies, and did just about everything. He loved being a doctor. One of his great gifts was his ability to diagnose an illness.
He also enjoyed golf with his buddies, quail hunting with his dogs, playing cards, and his email jokes.
There will be an empty place in the hearts of his wife, family, and friends that only he could fill, because he was always there for them.
He leaves behind his wife, Jane; brothers, Shorty Freeland (Ann) and William Freeland (Martha); brother-in-law, Bob McMullin; nieces, Teri Wood (Bob), Jana Davis (Tim), Betsy Evans (Dale) and Jennifer Hawtoff (Ivan), Debbie Owens and Donna Milam (Bobby); nephew, Rev. Ted Freeland; great-nieces and nephews, Jill Talbert (Daniel), Brian Wood, Laura Wood, Sarah and Russ Milam and Stephanie Hamlin; great-great-nieces and nephews, Audrey and Foster Talbert and Emily Hamlin; cousins, Msgr. Jack McEvilly, Connie Maxwell (Elwood) and Jayne Ann Wood (Frank), Kathy McEvilly, Rex Pierce, Sue and Jerry Koehler, Tim and Janet McEvilly, Dan McEvilly, Sandy and Jimmy McEvilly.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and aides at Memorial Hospital for their exemplary care.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Poor Clares or Queen of Peace School or masses.
