BRUCETON: Services for Bernice D. Birdwell, 70, were at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 19, at Bruceton First Baptist Church with the Reverends Terry Bradshaw and Everett Martin officiating. Burial was in Prospect Cemetery in Hollow Rock. Mr. Birdwell, a retired plumber and pipe fitter for TVA, died Tuesday, May 17, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He was born June 19, 1934, in Rutherford, to the late Garther Albert Birdwell and Ollie Ora Horn Birdwell. He was a member of the Bruceton First Baptist Church, Bruceton Masonic Lodge #731 and was a United States Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Park Birdwell; a daughter, Denice Webb of Milan; two sons, Garth Birdwell of Milan and Mark Birdwell of Jackson; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Teague.
Bruceton Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. John Leonard Brinkley, 80 of Hollow Rock, Tennessee, passed away Friday, June 20, 2014 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 2:00PM in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Prospect Cemetery. Bro. Robert White will officiate the service.
The family will receive friends in the Cherry wood Room of Chase Funeral Home on Sunday, from 4:00PM until 10:00PM and on Monday, from 9:00AM until time of service.
Pallbearers who will serve are Kenneth Henley, Danny Hussey, Ryan Criswell, Harry Davis Higdon, Malcolm Allen, and Hilliard Mann.
Mr. Brinkley was born November 25, 1933 in Hollow Rock, Tennessee to the late John Hubert Brinkley and Brooxie Nell (Higdon) Brinkley. He retired from DuPont where he worked in the maintenance department. He was a farmer, who enjoyed working his land and caring fro his livestock. He has a passion for singing gospel music. He was a member of the Carroll County Democratic Committee and the Carroll County Choir (RSVP). He sang lead in several gospel quartets and taught music as well. He was generous with sharing his garden produce with family and friends. Mr. Brinkley took pride in his family and was an excellent father and grandfather. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Lavona Brinkley.
He is survived by his daughter Sandra Henley (Kenneth) and son, John David Brinkley both of Hollow Rock and one sister, Cassie Cooper also of Hollow Rock. He also leaves two grandchildren, Courtney Criswell of Dyer, TN and Lindsey Hussey of Union City, TN. [Source: Chase Funeral Home]

Mr. James Bernard Butler 80, of Buena Vista, Tennessee passed away Monday, February 17, 2014 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Bro. Bro. Johnny Boyd will officiate the service.
The family will receive friends in the Oakwood Room of Chase on Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of service
Mr. Butler was born July 18, 1933 in Buena Vista, Tennessee to the late Curtis Lee and Era (Birdwell) Butler. He was retired from Dupont, a member of the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church and served in the National Guard. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gailon Ward Butler.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Butler, three daughters, Wanda Wyatt (husband Barney) of Buena Vista, Anita Bond (husband David) and Carol Ortiz (husband Hector) both of Bruceton; two sons, James Butler (wife Cathy) of Bruceton and Michael Butler (wife Lesa) of New Johnsonville. He also leaves ten grandchildren, Amy, Casey, John David, Melissa, April, Daniel, Jamie, Bridget, Chelsea and Caroline, and ten great grandchildren.

Charles Lynn Dillon, 63, of Hollow Rock, died Sunday, September 6, at City of Milan Hospital. Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, at Bruceton Funeral Home. Rev. Robert White and Rev. Jimmy Allison officiated. Burial followed in New Prospect Cemetery. Pallbearers who served were Doug Robertson, Bob Clark, Sr., Gary Ballard, Ron Humphreys, Billy Dodd, Roy Dillon, Danny Seaton. Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Oxford and Philip Higdon.
Mr. Dillon was born September 13, 1934, in Henry County, to the late Lynn and Bertha Irene Patterson Dillon.
He was a member of Hollow Rock Methodist Church and a Veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Dillon; a daughter, Debbie Cathey of Hollow Rock; and a granddaughter, Tiffany Cathey of Hollow Rock.

Mass was celebrated Saturday, September 27, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Camden for Brenda England Pekarchick, 73, of Bruceton. Mrs. Pekarchick died Tuesday, September 23, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was a retired clerk for Hopper Drugs in Bruceton.
She was born on November 1, 1934, in Bruceton, to the late Leland Alvin England and Virgie Bell England. Mrs. Pekarchick was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Michael Pekarchick, Sr.; a sister, Marie England; three brothers, Parnell England, L.A. England, and Garland England.
She is survived by three daughters, Dawn Terece Pekarchick of Cosby, Dana Marce Pekarchick of Bruceton, and Michelle Johnson of Knoxville; a son, Thomas Michael Pekarchick, Jr. of Bruceton; and four grandchildren, Chenoa, Nocona, Quanah and Brenna.

Mr. Lewis Dwayne Gamblin, 74 of Bruceton, Tennessee passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at the Henry County Medical Center in Paris.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, September 17, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Crossroads Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the Cherrywood Room of Chase Funeral Home on Thursday from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM and on Friday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
Mr. Gamblin was born March 14, 1936 in Carroll County, Tennessee to the late Lewis Dodson Gamblin and Mary Gladys (Pierce) Gamblin. He was a retired Accountant for the Franklin Graphics Company, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bruceton and attended New Hope Methodist Church, Bruceton Masonic Lodge, Alchymia Shrine Temple, and was an Army veteran for the 101st Airborn Division and served in the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth Cole Gamblin of Bruceton, two daughters, Sondra Kee (husband Dennie Wayne) of Vale, Dana McMinn (husband Jimmy) of Huntingdon, one sister, Rebecca Peeples (husband Roy) of Jacksonville, Flordia. He also leaves five grandchildren, Hannah Hurt (husband Kevin), Katie Beth Kee, Logan Ledsinger, Eric McMinn, Ryan McMinn, one niece Ann Temple (husband Michael) and one great nephew, Alex Temple both of Birmingham.

June Chapman, 74, of Hollow Rock, died Tuesday, March 11, at her home. Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 13, at Bruceton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Billy Joe Hilliard officiating. Burial followed at the Chapman-Glosson Cemetery. Pallbearers who served were Alex Autry, Wesley Grooms, Chad Glosson, Jamie Glosson, Bruce Hilliard, and Matt Hunt.
Mrs. Chapman, daugher of the late Alvis Doss Glosson and Verdie Irene Taylor Glosson, was born on June 14, 1934, in Hollow Rock. She was a housewife.
She is survived by her husband, Doyle Chapman; one daughter; five sons; five sisters; one brother; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Dwayne Ray Holladay, 51, died Wednesday, February 25, 1987, at work of an apparent heart attack. Mr. Holladay was a Security guard with Burns Security Service working at Comanche Peak Nuclear Plant in Glen Rose, Texas. Born March 10, 1935, to Mr. Raymond Holladay and Mrs. Imogene Robertson Holladay in Bruceton, he was married to Mrs. Pat Holladay and made his home in Nemo, Texas. He was an Air Force Veteran. Services for Mr. Holladay a Baptist, were held Sunday, March 1, 1987, at the Bruceton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harold Eubanks officiating. Burial followed in New Prospect Cemetery in Hollow Rock. Bruceton Funeral Home was in charge.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Pat Holladay, Nemo, Texas; three daughters, Mrs. Pam Phillips of Stuart, Fla., Mrs. Anita Emerine of Antioch, TN and Mrs. Melinda Goodman of Wichita Falls, Texas; one son, Mr. Ronnie Wagnon of Knoxville; one brother, Mr. Roy Holladay of Paducah; Ky. and six grandchildren. Betty Jo Kizer Johnson, 82, of Bruceton passed away Thursday, August 16 at Bolivar General Hospital. Funeral services were held August 18 at Bruceton Funeral Home. Burial followed at Prospect Cemetery. Pallbearers were Andrew Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Jason Kizer, Jody Kizer, Todd Lowe, and Darrin DeVault.
Mrs. Johnson was born August 27, 1935 to the late Joseph W. Kizer and Hazel Finch Kizer. She was a member of Bruceton First Baptist Church and a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 314. She enjoyed visiting with friends and playing cards. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Billy Thomas Johnson; and a brother, Charles Kizer.

Mrs. Virginia Marie Smith, age 89 of Huntingdon, Tennessee passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at her residence.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Huntingdon Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Methodist Cemetery. Chris King and Brooks Jackson officiating. The West Tennessee Nurses Honor Guard will conduct a Nightingale Tribute.
The family will receive friends at Dilday-Carter Funeral Home on Friday, November 1, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Saturday at Huntingdon Church of Christ from 9:00 AM until time of services at 11:00 AM.
Mrs. Smith was born November 3, 1934 to the late Walter Duel Smith and Queenie Turner Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Everett Smith Jr. “Pete”, sister Mary Charlene Smith, brother Walter Oscar Smith, sister-in-law Juanita Smith, brother-in-laws Thomas Hayes and Charles Cunningham, and her nephew Bryan Cunningham.
Mrs. Smith graduated from Saint Thomas School of Nursing in 1957 as a Registered Nurse. She worked over 60 years as a Registered Nurse at various hospitals and clinics, which includes over 30 years at the Carroll County Health Department, and service at Baptist Hospital of Memphis, Benton Clinic, Wilson Clinic, Florida School for the Deaf and Blind in Jacksonville, the John E. Goode Pretrial Detention Facility in Jacksonville, Florida, Home Health of Athens Tennessee and Life Care of Cleveland Tennessee.
She is survived by her sons: Wade Everett (Penny) Smith III of Huntingdon, Tennessee and Philip (Laura) Smith of Maryville, Tennessee; one daughter: Sheila (Stephen) Hensley of Ashland, Wisconsin; sister-in-laws: Sherry Cunningham of Camden, Tennessee and Peggy Hayes of Cartersville, Georgia; eight grandchildren: Anthony (Ashley) Smith, Lindsey (Nick) Vaughn, Drs. Victor (Elizabeth) Smith, Sarah Smith, Brandon Hensley, Drs. Justin (Katherine) Hensley, Hannah Darnell, and Aubrey Hensley; eight great-grandchildren: Caleb Smith, Mattie Smith, Brooklynn Pearson, Nolan Vaughn, Beau Smith, Adlee Vaughn, Jack Hensley, and Sam Hensley; nephews: Joe Max (Angie) Smith, Dean (Rita) Cunningham, Tim Hayes and Patrick (Heather) Hayes; nieces: Suzanne (Danny) Snider, Cindy (Chris) Whitehead, and Sarah (Rick) Rodriguez.

Burial followed in Hollow Rock Primitive Baptist Cemetery. Mr. Ware was born January 9, 1934 to the late Clyde and Mamie Phillips Ware.
He was a retired employee of Henry I. Siegel and a Vietnam Navy veteran. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Willene Ware; one son, Ricky Dudney; and one sister, Linda Ware.
Survivors include: three daughters: Denise Waits of Yulee, Florida, Elaine Fehl of Milton, Florida and Faye Pruitt of McKenzie; one sister, Nellie Sue Brazell of Bandana, Kentucky; and 11 grandchildren.

Mrs. McMackins was born March 24, 1936 in Huntingdon, Tennessee, to the late Claude Wilson and Mable Pendergrass Wilson. She was a bookkeeper, and member of the Bruceton Pitch Club and Bunco Girls Group. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Roy McMackins and one brother, Bryon Wilson.
She is survived by two sons, Terry Kent Pendergrass (Laura) of Huntsville, Alabama, Tommie Keith Pendergrass (Beth) of Goodlettsville, and one sister, Winona Yarbro of Camden. She also leaves three grandchildren, Jamie Ryan, May Pendergrasss, and Hunter Pendergrass. [Source: Chase Funeral Home]
