Bethany was proud to be a child of Christ and spread his word through her overflowing joy, love and care for others. She attended McKendree Memorial United Methodist Church in Portland, TN. She enjoyed singing in the choir, playing handbells, and most of all working with the children in the McKendree pre-school program. She was well known for her love of her family and grandchildren, working with flowers and plants, and of course her constant rescue and care of her Kitty Kats (as she loved to call them).
She is an alumnus of Middle Tennessee State University, class of 1979. While there she was a sister of Chi Omega Sorority and a “Little Sister” of Sigma Nu Fraternity, of which her husband Bill was a member. Her degree took her into the field of dietetics, and once moved to Portland, TN became a teacher in McKendree’s pre-school education program. She, and the children she taught, created life-long connections that she has always treasured.
Wilkinson and Wiseman Funeral Home, 715 S. Broadway in Portland, TN will handle the funeral arrangements. Her burial will follow at Old Brush Cemetery in Portland, TN immediately following the service.
For those wishing to make a donation in her name, please make these to McKendree United Methodist Church, 208 Wheeler Street, Portland, TN 37148 dedicated to the music department or pre-school program, or to the Hospice Promise Foundation, 901 Hugh Walls Road South, Lafayette, LA 70508, and please direct the donation to High Point Hospice in Gallatin, TN. The family would like to express their extreme appreciation to Dr. Diana Shipley and Tennessee Oncology for their wonderful and caring treatment, as well as to the wonderful nurses and doctors at Sumner Regional Medical Center for their honesty, compassion, and God given gifts. Finally, to High Point Hospice for the personal care and compassion given in such a short time that made her final moments with her family a true blessing. As Bethany would say, all the medical associates who provided the family care are “angels in human clothing.” [Source: Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home]
