BRUCETON — Funeral services for Cody Gipson, 30, of Bruceton were Saturday, April 2 at Bruceton Funeral Home. Interment was at New Prospect Cemetery. Gipson died March 30, 2016 in a traffic accident. He was the manager of Bob’s Used Cars.
Gipson is survived by his wife, Nikisha Allene Gipson of Bruceton; father, Richard Lee Gipson of Coppers Cove, Texas; mother, Kathy Dixon Hilliard of Bruceton; two daughters, Ryley Faith Gipson and Isabelle Grace Gipson; two sons, Wesley Gipson and Khaiden Gipson; and two sisters, Chrystal Graham of Millington and Katrina Sczesny of Coppers Cove, Texas; and one brother, Jesse Gipson of Hollow Rock. Richard Cody Gipson, 30, of Bruceton, was killed Wednesday morning in Huntingdon when the pickup truck he was driving was hit by a train, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
The accident was reported about 8:40 a.m. at Highway 70 and Northwood Drive. Michael Williams, a spokesman for Kentucky-West Tennessee Railway, which owns the train, said the accident happened when Gipson tried to cross the railroad tracks. The Highway Patrol report says Gipson was driving west on Northwood across the tracks. "Our condolences go to the driver's family and loved ones," Williams said.
Williams said preliminary information indicates the train's horn and bell were sounding prior to the crash, and data that is downloaded from the train would be needed to confirm that.
The train was traveling from Bruceton to McKenzie with two locomotives and 17 empty cars. The two men who were on the train are being offered counseling, Williams said. Williams said reports of fatalities involving trains emphasize the need for driver safety at railroad crossings.
"We urge all drivers to use caution at railroad crossings and follow signs," he said. The railroad crossing has signs and working lights but does not have a gate. [Sourced: Jackson Sun]
