Elree Horton

Elree Lewis Horton 1919-2004
May 28, 1919 - October 26, 2004

BUENA VISTA: Services for Elree Lewis Horton, 85, were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 29 at Bruceton Funeral Home Chapter with Minister Ted Gentle officiating. Interment followed at Prospect Cemetery in Hollow Rock. Military rites were conducted at the gravesite.

Mr. Horton, a retired rural mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service died on Tuesday, October 26 at Baptist East in Memphis. He was born on May 28, 1919 in Lexington to the late O.C. Horton, Sr. and Cora White Horton.

He was a member of the Bruceton Church of Christ, a World War II veteran, a Carroll County Commissioner for 18 years and he served on the committee that secured a nursing home for Bruceton. He was also a member of the Hollow Rock VFW Post 4349.

Survivors include his daughter, Ivey Elrod of Buena Vista, Nancy Dorobiala of Huntingdon, Kathy Horton of Collierville, Becky Todd of Trezevant and Betty Baggett of Waverly; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Horton was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Ivey Horton and a son, Elree Horton, Jr.
