Eloise Hammett Leafty
November 30, 1928 - April 6, 2011

Eloise Hammett Leafty passed away April 6, 2011 at home in Payson, AZ. She was born Nov. 30, 1928 in Hollow Rock, Tenn to the late James Roy Hammett and Ila (Lassiter) Hammitt. Eloise graduated from Central High School, in Bruceton, TN, where she was the Valedictorian of her graduating class, and she graduated from Lambeth College in Jackson, TN, where she earned a teaching certificate.

Eloise taught third- and fourth-grades at an elementary school near Jackson, TN. Later, she moved to Washington, D.C. and took a job with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, typing and compiling top secret information for the Bureau's files. In 1958, she moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where she worked at the Phoenix Credit Bureau, first as a credit counselor, and then as manager of that department. She retired from the credit bureau in 1995 after 30 years.

Eloise was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Sweeten. Following his passing, she married Eugene F. Leafty on April 8, 1981.

Eloise was also preceded in death by her daughter, Corinne Sweeten Barney; and stepson, Samuel. She is survived by her husband, Eugene; her daughters, Cynthia (Jim) Doskocil of Flagstaff and Bonnie (Ray) Doskocil of Scottsdale; and her son, Joel Sweeten of Vancouver, Wash. Also surviving are her stepchildren, LaWana (Abiel) Garduo of Aloha, Ore., Eugene Jr. of Blackfoot, Idaho, Patricia Bigelow, also of Blackfoot, Idaho, James of Tucson, Mary (Ernesto) of Paradise Valley, John of West Yellowstone, Mont., Joseph of Payson, Belinda (Darrell) Boggs of Aloha, Ore., Thomas of Ronan, Mont., Barbara Hart of West Yellowstone, Mont. and George of Emigrant, Mont. Mrs. Leafty also had 44 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
