CHS Class of 1962 – 50 Year Reunion
[Carroll County NEWS-LEADER]

The evening of May 11, 2012 was filled with great memories, delicious food and wonderful music when members of the Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central High School graduating Class of 1962 gathered at Mallard’s Restaurant in Huntingdon. In attendance for the 50 year reunion were 29 (out of 42 original) classmates and their guests for a total of 54 attendees. In keeping with the blue and white school colors, the room and tables were decorated by Rita Wiles McGee and Janie Cary Hall in blue and white arrangements consisting of ballgame shakers and white votive candles in glass containers surrounded by blue confetti ribbons. In addition, many pieces of school memorabilia and pictures of classmates were set up on a table for viewing by all who attended. Following a delicious meal of chicken cordon bleu and pork tenderloin with assorted vegetables and sumptuous homemade desserts, the reunion program was kicked off by Class President, Darryl Snyder who especially noted the two deceased members of the class- Jimmy Franklin and Elree Horton. Other class officers who attended were Jackie McGee, Vice-President; Katie Wright Kaler, Secretary; Jimmy French, Treasurer; and Steve Joyner, Sergeant-at-Arms. The graduates and their guests participated in a “Tiger Trivia Quiz” conducted by Allen Tolbert. The questions ranged from “Who was the Governor of Tennessee in 1962?” to “What was Coach W.D. King’s nickname?”. Following that activity, everyone participated in a “Name that Tune” contest where individual songs from 1962 were played and guests were asked to identify the singer or the name of the song. Throughout the evening a continuous loop multimedia program was shown on two TVs that contained numerous pictures of all of the attendees from their high school days. Each graduate received a DVD of the media presentation. Thanks to Benny Palmer Johnson each attendee received a CD of popular songs from the era. At the conclusion of the evening, class members agreed to have another reunion in 2015 to coincide with Alumni Day at CHS. Class members who attended the reunion were: Sandra Arnold Shaw, Thomas Butler, Janie Cary Hall, Charlotte Cunningham Dunning, Rebecca Eubanks Hampton, Joyce Douglas Hampton, Jimmy French, Harry Higdon, Ronnie Joyner, Steve Joyner, Patricia Key Bishop, Nelda King Davis, Charles Lankford, Betsy Maddox Engles, Jackie McGee, Rita Wiles McGee, Benny Palmer Johnson, Dale Phipps, Brenda Riley Pinson, Barbara Sarratt Oxford, Bob Scott, Joe Scott, Renee Sluck Hill, Billy Smith, Darryl Snyder, Ruth Ann Thorne Dame, Allen Tolbert, Judy Wood Connor, Katie Wright Kaler, Mary Ann Morehead and Elizabeth Ivy.
